SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY 2006

The Grand Valley Human Resources Professionals Association awards a $1,000 scholarship, based on academic achievement, to the individual who best reflects the code of ethics of the human resources profession as adopted by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario. In addition to this monetary recognition, the successful candidate will also receive a complimentary one-year HRPAO/Grand Valley Chapter membership.
Members of the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario strive for growth as human resources professionals and commit to the principles of the Code of Ethics to the best of their abilities. A human resources professional shall:
- continue professional growth in human resources management, in support and promotion of the goals, objectives and bylaws of the Association;
- not knowingly violate or cause to be violated any legislated act, regulation or by-law which relates to the management of human resources;
- demonstrate commitment to such values as respect for human dignity and human rights and promote human development in the workplace, within the profession and society as a whole;
- treat information obtained in the course of business as confidential and avoid or disclose any conflict of interest which might influence personal actions or judgments;
- refrain from inappropriately using their position to secure special privileges, gain or benefit for themselves, their employees or the Association;
- acknowledge an obligation to the employer community to encourage an foster generally accepted codes of moral behaviour; and
- practice respect and regard for other professional associations.
Individuals are required to apply for the scholarship. All applicants must provide a brief biography along with an essay outlining their goals in the field of human resources and steps taken thus far to work towards those goals.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have completed at least four of the nine courses required to register for the National Knowledge Exam (NKE). Applicants may be in full-time or part-time attendance at school. Official transcript(s) of marks must accompany the application.
Applicants must also provide a letter of recommendation from either 1) a university or college instructor of a course accepted as credit towards the CHRP academic requirements; or 2) the applicant's employer.
Applicants will be evaluated by the GVHRPA Training & Development Peer Networking Selection Committee. Criteria which will be used include but are not restricted to the following:
Academic
Completion of at least four of the nine courses required to register for the National Knowledge Exam (NKE).
Essay
Presentation, style and content of the essay
Length of essay must be between 600-800 words
Typed, double-spaced on 8½" x 11" white bond paper
Spelling, grammar and composition
Volunteerism
Extra curricular activities and/or volunteer work that demonstrates a commitment to the Human Resources profession.
Letter of recommendation
Demonstrated skills in the area of Human Resources
Interview
Professional image and presentation
Interpersonal and communication skills
The successful applicant will be awarded a cheque for $1,000, a commemorative plaque and a complimentary one-year HRPAO/Grand Valley Chapter membership . Recipients of the award will be granted one award only, and are not eligible for further scholarships through the GVHRPA.

Applications, including cover letter, transcript(s), essay, biography and a letter of recommendation must be received on or before Friday, February 3, 2006 .
